The Colors of Birds
This unique poster features bird, feather and egg specimens from the UW-Zoological Museum's Ornithology Collection. It describes how birds get their colors, many of which can only be seen by the unique visual system of birds.
The Colors of Birds
serves as an introduction to the complexity of bird physiology, feather structure, how we perceive them and how they perceive the world. Bird specimens are from the UWZM Ornithological collection and are shown actual size.

Galapagos Finches
Darwin's Finches have been sorted into various family trees many times. However, recent genetic research on this important group has shown that their relatedness is full of surprises. Here, we show new relationships between the species. Galapagos Finch skulls available in the UWZM Osteology Collection are featured, as well as sexual and breeding differences. Skulls are illustrated life size.

Wading Birds of Wisconsin
These 24 wading birds are summer residents that breed in Wisconsin. Some of them are common and recognizable by everyone who has visited lakeshores, marshes and other wetlands. Some may be common but well-hidden in shore vegetation, thus seldom noticed. Some are rare and not often observed even by dedicated birders. These birds saunter along shores, poking and searching for insects, crayfish, small fishes and similar denizens of shallow water, mudflats, sandy beaches and other wetland habitats. Cranes are seen not only in wetlands where they nest, but also foraging in croplands and other uplands; they are included here because cranes are regularly spotted in shorebird habitats. Specimens from the UWZM Ornithology collection were used for illustration details.
