• Keep the card in the customer’s line of sight.
• Match signatures on the signed receipt to the back of the card.
• Accept only the approved credit cards for your merchant account and ensure credit card logos are displayed. If a card declines, ask for another card or form of payment.
• The CVV2/CID number must never be written down on any paper documents, it can only be entered through a terminal. The CVV2/CID number is a 3 digit security code on the back of the VISA, Master Card and Discover cards. For American Express, it is a 4 digit security code on the front of the card.
• Write cardholder information on designated departmental forms only.
• Store all documents containing cardholder data in a secured locked area and shred documents once the transaction is processed.
• Never send or receive card data through e-messaging.
• Process refunds to the card used for the original purchase.
• Never share cardholder information outside of your work environment.
• Inspect devices regularly for skimmers and tampering. Report any suspicious behavior or equipment to your supervisor.
