Join us for a women's chainsaw safety training in Sturgeon Bay, WI!
The University of Wisconsin Extension Forestry is partnering with Blue Heron Stewardship for a workshop geared towards participants with little or no experience with a chainsaw. The principal focus will be on safety; safe posture, safe practices, safe clothing, and safe habits while in a female dominated class. This workshop will empower women to be comfortable with running a saw and saw knowledge. You will walk away with the skills to clear brush, maintain your property, harvest firewood, and more! It's empowering, practical, and a ton of fun!
Sessions will include:
- Hands on chainsaw practice
- Personal Protective Equipment & Safety equipment
- Â Maintaining a saw
- Demonstrations of safe felling techniques (or even felling a tree yourself!)
- Hands-on opportunity for supervised, safe practice
- Assessing the safety of the cuts
- Answers to your chainsaw questions!
Registration will cover the two-day workshop from 8AM - 4:30PM at Peninsular Agriculture Research Station in Sturgeon Bay, WI. This class focuses on teaching and learning so everyone walks away with confidence and ability to make the cuts they want using a chainsaw. Classes are based in small groups led by a professional sawyer to ensure we deliver the highest quality of information. We hope to deliver classes that are focused around safety, hands on education, building community, and the opportunity to ask questions. If you have your own chaps, helmet, and chainsaw, please bring them to the workshop. A limited supply of these items will be available to use for those who do not have their own equipment. Registration is $200 per person for all sessions.
