From extreme weather to emerald ash borer to invasive plants, our Wisconsin woodlands are experiencing a lot of change-with more expected to come. Have you wondered what you can do to help maintain your woodland's ecological health? Do you want to learn about forest management actions that can help increase your woods resilience in a changing world? This program is designed to give landowners in Northeast Wisconsin a framework for identifying risks, prioritizing management responses, and developing a plan to preserve your woodland's ecological health into the future. Using real-world examples from Northeast Wisconsin, in this course you will explore: - The concept of forest resilience and how changes in land use and the climate have threatened it.
- How using prescribed fire, managing invasive plants, addressing the impacts of emerald ash borer, and helping new generations of trees grow can strengthen forest resilience.
- Choosing which forest management actions to prioritize given forest conditions, labor considerations, or financial constraints.
- Interacting with a network of local landowner peers and natural resource professionals who can support forest management actions.
By the end of the Forest Resilience Series, you will be able to: - Assess your woodland to understand forest resilience issues.
- Identify high-priority forest management actions you could do on your land to improve forest resilience.
- Know how to take the "next step" in engaging with local natural resource professionals or cost-share programs.
- Leave with a deeper understanding of a land ethic to protect and preserve the cultural and ecological importance of Wisconsin's forests into the future.
